SUNNYVIEW, COMMUNITY HONOR IRIE MCKINLEY

Mrs. Irie McKinley, longtime receptionist at Sunnyview Head Start Center was honored in a ceremony Tuesday. Mrs. McKinley remained a staff member for 20 years until the age of 92 and passed away just days before her retirement celebration.

A room at the center, which displays her portrait, was named the Irie Cooksey-McKinley Multi-Purpose Room, shown right.  Her son and daughters were present to cut the ribbon.  Many of her friends and family members attended the ceremony and spoke of her kindness to all. 

Sunnyview Site Manger Stephanie Higgins gave the dedication while Sheila McDaniel, Family Advocate, told the group Mrs. McKinley’s spirit would remain at Sunnyview.  Vert Shed, Sunnyview Teacher II, sang a solo. Others participating included Wanda J. Smith, Head Start CEO and Bonnie Buchanan, South Triad Associate Director. 

A catered reception followed the ceremony.
