Two nationally recognized measures of quality
demonstrate that children who attend HSGD will leave the program
prepared for success in school.
Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ECERS)
Highly regarded in the early childhood education
field, research demonstrates a strong correlation between the classroom
environment and children’s scores. The mean total score in each area is
related to positive child development, including those domains important
for school success, such as cognitive development, language, and
social/emotional skills. Participating classrooms had high scores all
year in each of the seven
areas.
National Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NAEYC),
which administers a national, voluntary accreditation system,
is considered as the gold standard in child-care settings. There are more than
10,000 NAEYC accredited programs nationally. Out of the hundreds of
child-care facilities throughout Dallas County serving children of all
backgrounds, only 77 are NAEYC certified. Notably, HSGD-associated
centers account for more than 38 percent of those – that is, 29 of the
rigorously reviewed centers in Dallas.
