HSGD > June 2008 eSpirit Newsletter > Head Start Heroes Roundup     The second Head Start Heroes event took place Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Gilley's Dallas with a Western theme. The event was set to honor those donors, benefactors and volunteers who support the agency throughout the year. Raising over $35 thousand, this year’s event again proved to be a success. The Corporate Hero of the Year went to Microsoft, who most recently donated $761,766 in software. Since we began our partnership with them in 2000, Microsoft has donated almost $3 million in software, in-kind services and grants. Thank you Microsoft! Our Individual Hero of the Year went to Dallas Housing Authority President and CEO Ann J. Lott. Ann Lott has played an active role in ensuring that where there is space in a DHA Housing Complex, Head Start is given the first opportunity to occupy this space. To date, we have rent free space in four Dallas Housing Complexes. Our praise is sent to Mrs. Lott and her staff for their hard work and dedication to young children and their families! Also being honored were the Top Parent Volunteers of the Year. Carolina Lagos, from Anderson, volunteered a whopping 792 volunteer hours! Angela Hoofard, from our Martin Luther King, Jr. site, volunteered 537 hours. Our newest center, Margaret H. Cone, had a parent, Antionette Rivers, to end the year with 530 hours. Credit is also sent to Vaneza Dominguez of East Dallas, who gave 500 hours of her time. We appreciate all of you and your efforts to give back! The total, if this were a minimum wage paying job, would have been over $12,000! There were many others throughout the community that were honored as well. We send much appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. J. McDonald Williams, Sunbeam Foods, K&L|Gates, and Kaplan Early Learning Company, just to name a few, along with all others, for your generous contributions.
